Course Info: The 500 meter swim course is a clockwise rectangle with an in water start. Water temperature is expected to be near 70 degrees and wetsuits will be allowed. Athletes will exit the water after swimming beneath the highway bridge and into the creek mouth. From here it is a short run along a grass field into Transition.

The 12 mile bike course is one loop with no significant climbing. There is one small ascent at the beginning and end of the bike but otherwise this course is surprisingly flat and fast as athletes circle the valley in the shadow of Cold Mountain. Traffic is light to moderate and road surfaces are good to excellent. Turns are marked with pavement arrows and directional signs. Volunteers and police man each intersection.

The 5 km run is an out and back course with the first half gradually climbing up towards the Blue Ridge parkway, winding alongside the cool mountain streams. The ascent toward the turn around is so gradual runners don't realize they have been going up until they have hit the turn around marker and started the final 2.5K toward the finish line. Aid stations will be positioned every mile on this lightly traveled road.

More: The Lake Logan Sprint Triathlon headlines the second day of the Lake Logan Multi-Sport Festival. The international distance race will be held on Saturday, August 4. Sunday will also be the day of the 2012 Lake Logan Aquathon. Lake Logan was the site of the 2009 USAT Aquathlon National Championships and we want to encourage the growth of this sport by continuing the race in 2012.

The Lake Logan Sprint Triathlon is a smaller version of its international-distance big brother held the day before. Located at the Lake Logan Episcopal Center, it is one of the most beautiful events in the country. The weather almost always matches the scenery with cool morning air high in the Appalachian Mountains that makes for comfortable conditions for both racers and spectators. Another welcome treat to those familiar with Western North Carolina is the strange absence of any major climbs. In fact the bike and run are mostly flat with only one small ascent coming at the beginning and end of the bike. Registrations have increased dramatically each year and we anticipate this event to reach its capacity before the event date.
